Let Cancer be a Zodiac Sign – Biker shares latest road trip to Himalayas

My name is Subhojit Dutta residing in Kolkata. I am 30 years old. By profession, I am an employee of a private sector.I am associated with Duo Motorcycle Touring with my wife which is my passion, dream, and hobby. I visited some places in India with my motorcycle. November 2016 when I was first diagnosed with leukemia. I felt I wouldn’t be able to do road trips anymore as such adventure sports requires lots of fitness and strength. I came across many articles and motivational thoughts and ultimately a hope of fighting back came into me.

After approx 2 years of Medication, Motivation, Goodwill and Faith I realised it’s all about Hope & Positivity. Recently a year back I made a Duo ride to a Beautiful Rough & Tough terrain of Himalaya which I could successfully complete. I realised I can lead a life like normal people and continue my adventure sport. Recently one month back my ride was in Lower Mustang of Nepal. So here is my short write up about this trip.

You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending – C S Lewis. This famous line has somehow helped me to fight back in life and reach the place where I am today. I am Subhojit Dutta, a leukemia patient since November, 2016 and a passionate motorcycle rider. Probably I am the first leukemia patient to cross country border and reach Muktinath Temple (12172 ft) in motorcycle covering approx 2500 Km.

Having diagnosed with cancer at an age of 28, life seemed to come to an end. I felt I would not be able to continue with my regular life and most specifically Motorcycle riding anymore as such Adventure sports require a lot of fitness and strength. After almost 2 years of medication I understood life is more about positivity and will power.

October 2018, I decided to ride till Muktinath in Mustang Valley of Nepal. I started my journey from Kolkata along with my wife on 21st October 2018. I reached Nepal via Raxaul-Birganj International Border. It was very beautiful riding through valley, jungles & mountains of Nepal. The road condition is good enough till Beni. From Beni the paved road got replaced by the gravel, sludge and rock.

With Kali Gandaki river in one side and snow capped peak on the other, we started gradually ascending. In this adventurous tour I came across numerous small beautiful hamlets, stopping for breakfast, tea, lunch and sometimes for shelter. The dusty roads, dry river bed, snowy peaks left us awestruck. Jomsom and Kagbeni offer a hint of Upper Mustang valley. This trip has helped me gain my confidence, my faith and my belief in positivity. As rightly said reaching the temple both the mind and the soul gets liberated.

My daily fight with cancer was tough but this ride taught me I am stronger than what I thought. It took me to an unknown place, out of my comfort zone, I learned about my capabilities. Every time I was pushing myself a bit more keeping myself calm, nature turned to be more beautiful. At the end I returned to Kolkata safely on 02nd November 2018. I was overwhelmed to complete the trip. No trip was ever so wonderful. ?
