Worlds fastest production motorcycle, Lightning LS-218 was unveiled at 2014 Quail Motorcycle Gathering event in California by Electric 2 wheeler manufacturers Lightning Motorcycles. Lightning LS-218 has more power, extra torque, added speed and enhanced performance when compared to any other racing or production motorcycle in circulation as on date.

Lightning LS-218 is worlds fastest motorcycleLightning LS-218 has been designed by Glynn Kerr, a name also to be associated with the designing of motorcycles for Bajaj Auto and who is linked with the design of both Pulsars and Discovers. Seen in a metallic blue, LS-218 has a record top speed of 215 mph, and a best top speed of 218 mph (or about 350.8 kmph). This makes it the fastest motorcycle in the world, in production guise.

It has three battery options offering 380V, 12kwh for 160-200kmph, 15kwh for 200-240kmph and 20kwh for 260-290kmph. Lightning possess Ultra High Power Density Drive System allowing peak power setting without any overheating constraints. Lightning LS-218 can be charged at public fast charging stations in less than 30 minutes. This electric engine has been developed by Lightning R&D team who have mastered this technology through years of competition at racing events across the globe.

Lightning LS-218 designEquipment on board the new Lightning LS-218 includes brass colour, Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes while the company offers options such as fully programmable Android display, carbon fiber swing arm and frame besides titanium fasteners, custom graphics and seating. The motorcycle will be officially launched later this summer. Bookings are now open. Each bike is built to order and is priced at $38,888 (INR 22,73 lakhs minus taxes).
