Mahindra plans a range of new launches in India. To be precise, they will launch three new cars by the end of this fiscal year. One of these three cars is the sub 4 meter compact SUV, which is reportedly known as baby XUV500, aka XUV300.
Recently, automotive enthusiast Rajat managed to click spy photos of the Mahindra XUV300 while it was on test with rival car – Maruti Brezza. From the spy images it is clear that Mahindra is benchmarking their upcoming SUV against the best-selling car in the segment. Maruti Brezza, which is only offered in diesel engine option, sells about 15,000 units every month in India.
Mahindra XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli, and will be a sub 4 meter SUV. It will boast of a rugged stance. It will get a distinctive Mahindra front grille with a diamond stud pattern that was also seen on the XUV500, LED tail lamps, large alloy wheels and projector headlamps.
Its interiors will boast of driver and passenger comforts in the form of leather wrapped steering wheel, leather seating, keyless entry, push button start/stop feature and automatic climate controls.
The touchscreen infotainment system will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while among its safety features will be reverse parking camera, electrically folding ORVMs, foldable rear seat, dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Mahindra XUV300 has been designed and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. It will be powered by a 1.5 liter TGDI petrol engine being developed by Mahindra and SsangYong set for output of 100 bhp power and 150 Nm torque. It will also get a new 1.5 liter diesel engine, which is being benchmarked against Maruti Brezza’s 1.3 liter DDiS engine.
Both Mahindra XUV300 engines are expected to get mated to a 5 speed manual or 5 speed AMT. Expect fuel efficiency of the petrol and diesel engines to stand at 16-7 kmpl and 21-22 kmpl respectively while prices could range between Rs 6-9 lakhs.
