Mahindra is one of the leading SUV makers in the country. They are now all set to introduce the new Alturas G4 SUV in India on 24th November 2018. Ahead of that, dealers have started offering test drives to probable customers.
Bookings are open at a payment of Rs 50,000. Dealers are accepting bookings, and are also telling customers that the SUV will be priced in the region of Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 30 lakhs. In this range, it is a rival to Toyota Fortuner, Honda CRV and Skoda Kodiaq.
Mahindra Alturas G4 was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year. It will be offered in two trims with the base variant 2WD G2 and the top of the line trim being a 4WD G4. It is seen in a design similar to the Rexton G4 but gets a Mahindra family grille.
It boasts of a rugged body-on-frame construction. Interiors will be seen in a two tone color scheme with a panoramic sunroof, dual zone climate control, 3 row AC vents, Nappa leather seating with memory function and a leather wrapped steering wheel while the instrument cluster will be a fully digital unit. Safety features will include a total of 9 airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control system among others.
Mahindra Alturas is powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine offering 180.5 bhp power and 450 Nm torque with power being sent to all four wheels via a Mercedes sourced 7 speed automatic gearbox.
With the name ‘Alturas’ meaning ‘heights’, Mahindra is setting up exclusive ‘World of SUVs’ dealerships offering buyers a more premium buying experience. Production operations are currently underway at the company plant in Chakan near Pune. Will this be the slayer of Toyota Fortuner, which is currently no less than the king in the segment? Only time will tell.
