Mahindra Alturas G4 is the name of XUV700 – Bookings open from today at Rs 1 lakh

After the successful launch of Marazzo MPV, Mahindra will launch yet another car this year. This will be in the form of Alturas G4. In their media release today, Mahindra revealed that the SUV which they showcased at the Auto Expo as Y400, will be launched as Alturas G4, and not XUV700 (as it was rumoured till date).

Mahindra Alturas G4 is a full sized luxury SUV which will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq in the above Rs 30 lakhs segment. Veejay Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, M&M Ltd. said, “The word Alturas means ‘height’ or ‘pinnacle’. The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product.”

Alturas G4 is a 7-seater and it will have bold, rugged exteriors. In addition to the trademark tooth-like grille and company’s logo in the centre, it will have stylized headlamps with LED DRLs, beefier bumpers, horizontal fog lamps and new alloy wheels.

Its wheelbase measures 2,865mm and it will be quite heavy at around 2,095 kg. A slew of premium features will be available such as plush leather seats, sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 360-degree parking-assist camera.

Mahindra Alturas G4 will be offered in two trims G2 and G4. Both trims will be powered by the same 2.2 liter diesel engine which will deliver 182 PS and 450 Nm torque. This is the most powerful engine Mahindra has ever launched in their passenger car in India. Both variants will feature Mercedes-sourced 7 speed automatic transmission. No manual transmission is on offer. As the name suggests, G2 trims is a 2WD option, while the G4 trim is a 4WD option.

Mahindra will be looking to keep the pricing competitive to effectively compete with its rivals that include Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and Honda CR-V. Alturas G4 will be locally made at the company plant in Nashik where the production is already underway. Expect launch price in the region of Rs 25 lakhs.
