Mahindra Alturas Nov 2018 sales at 216 units – Toyota Fortuner at 1,475

In spite of launching the new Alturas SUV towards the end of November (24th), Mahindra has managed to deliver 216 units of their premium SUV last month. This is an impressive start for an SUV which is challenging the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Skoda Kodiaq.

Interestingly, sales of all three rivals – Fortuner, Endeavour and Kodiaq declined in the month of Nov 2018. Toyota sold 1,475 units of Fortuner, Ford sold 433 units of Endeavour, while Skoda sold 127 units of Kodiaq.

Compared to Nov 2017, these sales figures have declined by 35% for Fortuner, 21% for Endeavour and 52% for Kodiaq. For this decline in sales, it Mahindra Alturas is not solely responsible. In fact, the auto industry at large is going through a tough period of sales.

Mahindra Alturas is a rebadged version of the SsangYong G4 Rexton. Its name Alturas means ‘Height’ or ‘Pinnacle’. It boasts of features such as HID headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, an aggressive bumper design and LED DRLs which also act as cornering lamps. The Alturas G4 sits on 18′ alloy wheels, gets a roof mounted spoiler with integrated brake lights and ORVMs with integrated turn signal lamps.

Alturas G4 includes comfort and infotainment features that are among the best in its class. It is seen in a dual tone Nappa leather on seats and door trims, soft touch dashboard, LED cabin lights and a sun roof with anti pinch function.

Infotainment is via a 7” fully digital instrument cluster and an 8” touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other interior comforts include an 8 way adjustable driver seat, 3 zone climate control and safety features among which are rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, 9 air bags, ABS, EBD, electronic stability program and a smart power tailgate.

The Mahindra Alturas gets its power via a 2,157cc, four cylinder, diesel engine offering 178 hp power at 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm torque at 1,600-2,600 rpm mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission.
