Mahindra Alturas SUV launch price Rs 26.95 lakhs – Cheaper than Toyota Fortuner

Mahindra’s version of the SsangYong Rexton 4th gen, has been launched today at a gala evening in Jaipur. This new Alturas G4 SUV will be positioned above the Mahindra XUV500 and will be the company’s flagship product in the company lineup.

Priced Rs 26.95 lakhs for the base variant and Rs 29.95 lakhs for the top variant, Mahindra Alturas is a direct rival to Toyota Fortuner (Rs 29-33 lakhs for diesel variants). These are ex-showroom prices. Mahindra claims that the Alturas is the most premium car ever to be launched by any Indian car maker till date. And they are right. The ex showroom prices are uniform across India and not different as our usual state norms.

Not only the Alturas is more premium than any other car in its segment (including Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq), its interior quality is so premium, that it will shame some expensive German cars which are about twice the cost of Alturas SUV. It is because of this high quality, Mahindra has given Alturas the tag of ‘Royalty Redefined’.

Before the launch event, Mahindra had arranged a special Polo match. Some of the players who participated in the match were from the royal family of Rajasthan. After the match, royals of Rajasthan were seen taking test drive of the Alturas, and were pretty impressed.

Mahindra Alturas has come into India via the CKD route with local assembly at the company plant in Chakan near Pune. This has allowed the company to price the Alturas aggressively. It will be seen in two variants, a lower trim G2 variant with 2WD and a fully loaded G4 variant with 4WD. Bookings had opened earlier this month at a down payment of INR 50,000 with deliveries to commence immediately after launch.

To show off its exclusivity, Mahindra will present the Alturas for sale via Mahindra’s ‘World of SUVs’ dealerships with exclusive Relationship Managers for G4 customers. Mahindra has also introduced ‘Purple Club+’, a first in class loyalty program allowing customers to earn and redeem points based on engagements with the brand.

Mahindra Alturas is offered in color options of New Pearl White, Napoli Black, Lakeside Brown, and Dsat Silver. Its exteriors will show off a bold and imposing design and will be seen with a new vertical slat front grille, premium features such as projector headlamps with LED DRLs, cornering lamps and LED fog lamps.

Its interiors will also be seen with several first in class comfort, technology and safety features. Boasting of a rugged body-on-frame construction, the interiors will be seen in a two tone color scheme. It gets Nappa leather upholstery on seats with memory function, leather wrapped steering wheel, dual zone climate control, a sunroof and a fully digital 9.2” instrument cluster with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity besides a 360 degree camera. In terms of safety, the new Alturas will get ABS, EBD and 9 airbags along with traction control system.

The Alturas will be powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine offering 181 hp power and 420 Nm torque mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox. Take a look at detailed features and specs in the brochure images below.
