Mahindra car sales Jan 2020 decline 17% – Scorpio, Bolero, Marazzo

Mahindra Passenger Vehicles segment (UVs, Cars and Vans) sales for January 2020 is reported at 19,797 units, down 17 percent from 23,872 units in January 2019.

Of total PV sales, UV sales fell 13 percent, down to 19,455 units in Jan 2020 from 22,263 units in Jan 2019. The cars (Mahindra Electric) and Vans segment witnessed steeper sales decline at 79 percent, down to 342 units from 1,609 units.

As FY20 draws to a close, Mahindra PV sales is in the red for now. YTD PV sales fell 14 percent, down to 1,72,656 units from 2,00,946 units. Of this, UV sales decline is reported at 11 percent, down to 1,65,619 units from 1,85,212 units. Cars and Vans sales fell by more than half. At sales decline of 55 percent, volumes are down to 7,037 units from 15,734 units.

Exports fell by 45 percent in January 2020, down to 1,761 units from 3,222 units. YTD exports are down 22 percent at 24,633 units from 31,565 units. 22,329 tractors were sold in the domestic market during January 2020 at 7 percent growth. 787 tractors were exported last month, down from 1,264 units.

In the Commercial Vehicles segment, Mahindra reports 22,851 vehicles sold January 2020, down 1 percent against 22,625 vehicles in January 2019. Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment, sales fell to 471 vehicles from 849.

Total domestic sales is down 3 percent to 50,785 units from 52,500 units. YTD total domestic sales is down 10 percent at 4,11,533 units from 4,58,074 units. Mahindra overall automotive sales (Domestic + Exports) stood at 52,546 vehicles in January 2020, down 6 percent compared to 55,722 vehicles during January 2019. YTD total sales is reported at 4,36,166 units, down 11 percent from 4,58,074 units.

Three Wheeler sales brings a cheer. Sales growth is reported at 36 percent, up at 8,137 units from 6,003 units. YTD 3W sales is up 7 recent at 57,923 units, up from 54,104 units. The manufacturer says January 2020 sales is relatively muted as the company is ramping down BSIV vehicle production and transitioning to BSVI production. Its BSVI range has being kickstarted with XUV300 launch, which has been well received by consumers.
