In the first phase starting 14th Feb 2025, Mahindra will be selling only the top variants (Pack 3) of BE 6 and XEV 9e

With its born-electric SUVs, Mahindra is looking to dominate the EV segment in India. BE 6 and XEV 9e are the first to be launched, with bookings to open from 14th Feb. Deliveries for the top variants will commence from March 2025.

5K monthly target with just the top variants

Mahindra is confident of achieving 5K monthly sales target even when only the top variants of BE 6 and XEV 9e will be available in the first phase. That’s because the response to these electric SUVs has been overwhelming. The launch attracted 2.50 lakh live concurrent viewers on X (Twitter), which is a record. Overall reach was more than 165 million, whereas video views were estimated to be more than 1.44 billion. And these numbers are continuously rising.

Mahindra’s confidence could also come from positive reports from its dealerships. It is likely that enquiries for BE 6 and XEV 9e are pouring in significant numbers. Although pricing for the top variants seem high, the comprehensive range of best-in-class and segment-first features are unparalleled.

Folks who want to experience something truly unique shouldn’t mind paying the premium price. BE 6 top variant (Pack 3) is available at Rs 26.90 lakh, whereas XEV 9e is priced at Rs 30.50 lakh. The top variants are equipped with a 79-kWh battery pack, delivering a real-world range of over 500 km.

Earlier, Mahindra had announced the pricing of base (Pack 1) variants of BE 6 and XEV 9e. These are priced at Rs 18.90 lakh and Rs 21.90 lakh, respectively. Mid-spec variants (Pack 2) will also be available at a later stage. The booking and delivery timeline for Pack 1 and Pack 2, along with pricing of Pack 2, are expected to be announced in March. As most of the hi-tech features are available with the top variants, it is expected that Pack 3 variants will generate the majority of sales for BE 6 and XEV 9e.

Mahindra could emerge No. 1 EV manufacturer

If the target of 5k monthly sales is achieved in the initial months, Mahindra could emerge as the top selling EV brand in the country. As of now, Mahindra is at third spot, trailing Tata Motors and MG Motor. Tata Motors currently leads the EV segment with a market share of close to 50%. In November 2024, Tata EV sales were at 4,224 units. Tata’s EV portfolio comprises cars like Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon and Curvv. Future growth will be powered by new products such as Tata Avinya and Sierra EV.

As of now, Tata Motors is facing stiff competition from MG Motor in the EV segment. MG is currently ranked second, with market share of more than 36%. Its EV portfolio comprises the Windsor EV, Comet EV and MG ZS EV. At number three, Mahindra currently sells only the XUV400. Sales were at 552 units in November 2024. With the addition of XEV 9e and BE 6 sales in the coming months, Mahindra could become the No 1 electric car maker of the country.
