To be launched on January 6, 2015, Mahindra Imperio a premium light commercial vehicle (LCV) is being brought in to take the place of Mahindra Genio pickup. It will compete with the likes of Tata Xenon and Isuzu D-Max in India, while it has been totally conceptualized and developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. Production will be conducted from the company plant in Chakan near Pune.
Mahindra Imperio, with an exclusive microsite created for the active launch countdown, will be the company’s 8th product to be launched in 2015-16 fiscal. It will offer a premium product experience in a segment of small commercial vehicles while promising style, performance and on-board driving comforts.
Catering to the demands of small and medium business operations in the country, Mahindra Imperio will be powered by the same engine as seen in the Genio. The engine will include a 2.5 liter mDI CRDe in-line four cylinder diesel engine offering 75 hp peak power and 220 Nm peak torque at 1,400-2,200 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
As also seen on Mahindra Genio, Mahinder Imperio will also be offered in two variants. One of which will have payload capacity upto 1,100 kgs and will weigh 2,930 kgs. Though similar to the Mahindra Genio in some respects, Mahindra Imperio will sport new designs and styling cues. The front fascia gets bolder toothed grille and a sharper headlamp cluster while new bumper housing and circular fog lamp enclosures are also evident.
Mahindra and Mahindra is doing well in the light commercial vehicle segment with one in every two LCVs (less than 3.5 tonne capacity) sold in the country being manufactured by Mahindra. The Mahindra Imperio is the fourth model LCV launched by the company in 8 months. Jeeto brand was launched in June 2015 followed by the Supro Van and Supro Maxitruck in October.
