Mahindra KUV100 compact SUV was revealed in two official photos last week. These two photos gave a clear look at the car’s front and front left quarter. The rear was not revealed. Now, Mahindra has released a new teaser TVC which reveals the rear of the car for the first time officially. To be offered in four variants – K2, K4, K6 and K8 besides 7 exterior colour options, the new KUV100 will be first of company offerings with a petrol engine. Set to target young and first time car buyers in the country, the sub 4 meter compact SUV comes in with bollywood actor Varun Dhawan as brand ambassador while Mr. Keshub Mahindra is the first owner of the SUV.
To compete head on with the likes of Hyundai Grandi10, Ford Figo and Maruti Wagon R, Mahindra KUV100, stands for Kool Utility Vehicle while 100 follows the order after the TUV300 and XUV 500below which it will be positioned. Mahindra KUV100 will be officially launched on January 15, 2016 while production will take place at the company plant in Chakan, near Pune. Designed as a sub 4 meter SUV, the KUV100 receives design updates from Pininfarina, Italian design studio which is evident in its shorter overhangs, clamshell bonnet and sculpted edges. It also gets bold new bumpers and sits on a newly developed monocoque platform. To be powered by a new mFalcon petrol engine developed in consultation with SsangYong, the 1.2 liter VVT engine called mFalcon80 is capable of 82 bhp power at 5,500 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 3,500-3,600 rpm. There is also a 1.2 liter turbocharged diesel engine called mFalcon75 powering the new Mahindra KUV100. This engine offers 77 bhp power at 3,750 rpm and 190 Nm torque at 1,750-2,250 rpm. Both engines are mated to a five speed gearbox, while AMT option will not be on offer at launch. As far as pricing is concerned, it is estimated that the Mahindra KUV100 petrol variants will be priced from INR 4-6 lakhs while diesel versions could range from INR 4.5-7 lakhs.
