Miguel 44 gets into race modeThe all new Mahindra MGP3O team did quite well to tussle with the big guns for top position in qualifying and thereafter finish the race in seventh and tenth places respectively.

A 250cc four stroke engine fitted in a tailor made chassis showed a lot of grit and superior performance in the first race of the 2013 Moto GP season. Miguel Oliveira and Efrén Vázquez qualified in fifth and eight place respectively. Start of the race saw Oliveira strut his stuff as he stayed with the first five riders for the initial laps before conceding his position as he tussled with those behind him for the sixth place.

However, he wasn’t able to make a stand and had to settle for the seventh place which incidentally was Mahindra’s best MotoGPO3 performance ever. Efren Vasquez starting on third row was in even bigger trouble as he fought off resistance to get in at tenth place thereby posting a good overall performance for the team.

Miguel Oliveira in 7th place said, “It is a little bit frustrating when you feel you have the potential to fight for the top five, but in our first race we are very happy to be the first non-KTM bike. This is a big accomplishment for a bike that only came together hardly two months ago. I am really happy about the project and I am looking forward to the future races optimistic that we will be able to improve a lot.”

Efren Vasquez in 10th place said, “The result is a good surprise for me but I finish the race a little bit angry because I think my rhythm was good enough to battle with Miguel. I lost time in the early laps, starting on row three. But finally the team got two really great results in the first race and that is very important for Copyright © 2013 Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Mufaddal Choonia, CEO Mahindra Racing said, “A very encouraging start, considering that six months ago this bike was still on the drawing board. To see both riders in the top ten is really encouraging. It gives us a good platform to build on. We are so fresh and new into the project, and I am confident that we can really grow from here on.”
