Mahindra Quanto, Renault Duster and Nissan Evalia utility vehicle launches for Indian auto maket in 2012 Q3
Today the Indian utility vehicle segment sees a new entrant in the Nissan Evalia MPV which is available at a price of Rs 8,49,000 to Rs 9,99,000. M&M, auto majors in India last week launched their new Mahindra Quanto compact SUV 5 + 2 seater, which is competitively priced in a range of Rs.5.99 lakhs to Rs.7.57 lakhs. It’s a great price to take on the recently launched compact SUV Renault Duster that is available in a price range of Rs 8.35 lakhs to Rs 11.84 lakhs. On the price front, the Maruti Ertiga MUV costs between Rs 7.80 lakhs to Rs 9.13 lakhs.
The company expects demand to be promising, and what remains to be seen is whether or not the Mahindra Quanto matches demand created by the XUV500 SUV last year. M&M will be augmenting production of Quanto at the Nashik company plant, and production can be incresaed as demand increases keeping in mind the compact SUV shares production space with the mini Xylo.
Output for Quanto will be at 2500 units per month from October while the company is hoping to attract a new range of customers who will now prefer the Quanto over entry level sedans and hatchbacks specially considering its reasonable and highly affordable pricing. In this segment, the Marut Dzire sedan is slotted in a price range of Rs 6.28 lakhs to Rs 7.65 lakhs. Mahindra Quanto is powered by a 1493cc MCR100 diesel engine that has peak power of 100 bhp at 3750 rpm and max torque of 240 Nm at between 1600 and 2800 rpm. This compact seven seater SUV is available in a choice of six colors and includes Fiery Black, Java Brown, Mist Silver, Toreador Red, Rocky Beige and Diamond White. Maruti Ertiga and Renault Duster are likely to be its main competitors as on date, and now the Nissan Evalia MPV that’s looking to mkae the Toyota Innova seem premium in every sense.
