Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has issued a statement on Tuesday recalling all XUV500 models manufactured before July 2014. These models are being recalled for an upgrade of airbag software which the company will be carrying out free of cost. The recall is being limited exclusively to airbag software change and no parts will be replaced.
Mahindra recalls XUV500 models as a part of the company’s customer centric approach and is also in keeping with SIAM’s voluntary code on vehicle recall. The company has not disclosed exactly how many models are being recalled. For the upgradation of the side curtain airbag software the company is contacting each owner individually, while customers can also visit ‘Service Action’ section on the company’s website to ascertain whether their vehicle is a part of this recall.
XUV500 was launched in India in September 2011. Since then, the company has sold well over 1 lakh units, crossing the 1 lakh milestone in July 2014. At the end of 2014, M&M had recalled 2,300 units of both Scorpio and XUV 500 besides the Xylo MPV due to defective vacuum pump in engines produced in May 2014. 23,000 units of Scorpio were also recalled in July 2014 over faulty pressure regulating valves.
