Mahindra S101 is the new compact SUV which will become the first Mahindra SUV to feature a petrol engine.

To rival the likes of Renault Kwid, Tata Zica, Maruti WagonR, Hyundai i10 and Maruti Celerio, five door Mahindra S101/KUV100 will be the company’s most affordable passenger vehicle once launched.

Undergoing final rounds of tests, Mahindra S101 will be packaged in a similar way as the Renault Kwid (SUV like styling and aggressive pricing), but it will also have what the Kwid does not have – more powerful petrol engine and a diesel engine option.

Based on a monocoque chassis, the S101 will receive petrol and diesel engine options for which the company has teamed up with SsangYong. The Mahindra S101 is expected to get a 3 cylinder 1.2 liter turbo petrol and a 3 cylinder 1.5 liter engine, both mated to a five speed manual transmission. The diesel engine option is expected to be the same one which is seen on the Quanto. This option will also be offered with AMT option.

To cater to a larger segment of buyers, Mahindra S101 has been built keeping in mind the needs of a first time car buyer. Spyshots of the interiors reveal that S101 features steering wheel with integrated controls for audio system, central console in piano black finish and HVAC controls.

Apart from this, images also reveal tha tthe gear lever is located on the central console (like the Datsun Go), so as to offer more space. The S101 comes in with two rows of seating in a 3+3 configuration able to comfortable accommodate upto 6 persons.
