Mahindra S107 to be the world’s most affordable electric SUV

Mahindra’s EV strategy will aim to take advantage of the Indian government’s NEMMP 2020.

Mahindra Electric, formerly known as Mahindra Reva, is gearing up to develop new products at the affordable end of the electric vehicle spectrum. The company recently launched the eVerito sedan and is now looking to tap into Mahindra’s expertise in SUVs.

Economic Times reports that Mahindra Electric is working on a pure electric SUV codenamed S107. This vehicle which is likely to be an electric version of the KUV100 could emerge as the world’s most affordable electric SUV.

Mahindra’s future electric vehicles will be caatering to the affordable end of the spectrum.

The idea is to explore the synergies between the Mahindra EV and regular passenger vehicle divisions. In his speech at the recent AGM, Anand Mahindra stated, “If anyone is preparing feverishly for a disruptive future of mobility, it is Mahindra.” This is a heavy hint on a lineup of electric vehicles.

The company is working on continuous development of electric powertrain to eliminate the consumers’ range anxiety. The automaker is also working on electrifying commercial vehicles.

More electric SUVs could be in Mahindra’s product pipeline.

Mahindra Electric is currently focusing on selling its e2o to fleet operators and in export markets. The company is also testing a four-door variant of the e2o for customers who are looking for a more practical electric city car.

With its slew of new products, Mahindra is looking to have the first mover advantage in the Indian EV segment which is still at a nascent stage.
