Pawan Goenka, Mahindra & Mahindra Executive Director for Automotive and Farm equipment sectors, recently stated that the group wants to enter the US market but not with Mahindra SUVs.The Indian automaker planned foray into the US market with Scorpio pick-up in 2009, but was unable to set foot due to repeated delays and legal problems with its former distributor Global Vehicles.
Now the group is keen on entering the SUV market there with its South Korean arm SsangYong. Recently launched (in South Korea) SsangYong Tivoli compact crossover and new Rexton SUV are the two artilleries Mahindra is planning on deploying on US soil soon. Tivoli will cater to B-segemnt and Rexton to D-segment.
The company did not mention any timeline of US launch while laying out the plans, and even the plans are not fully inked. The company is undertaking market study in the continent, after which they will finalise the course of action.
