Mahindra Thar is one of the most powerful off-roaders on sale in India. It was the first car from Mahindra to receive a BS IV CRDe engine and is offered in three variants of DI 4×2, DI 4×4 and the CRDe 4×4 with AC. The Thar is not only liked by off-road enthusiasts in India, but also from around the world.
Recently, Mahindra launched a new special edition of Thar in South Africa, called the Adventure Series 4×4. It is the same Thar which is on sale in India, but beefed up with off-road accessories to attract new generation of car buyers.

With the Adventure Series, we have added the most popular Thar accessories at a discounted price to create a model that is sure to find favour with this group of fans.”
Speaking about the updates on offer with the new Mahindra Thar Adventure Series 4×4, it gets off-road bumpers from Bundu Gear – a renowned manufacturer of Mahindra off-road accessories, there is also a steel canopy, and new off-road alloys with snorkel. What is even more interesting is the fact that you can actually remove the steel canopy from over the front passengers, and have some open-top driving experience.
Mahindra Thar Adventure Series 4×4 front bumper gets a top bar, which will deliver added protection to the grille, it also gets coloured recovery points, built-in LED lights, and high-lift jack mounting points. Owners can also install a removable winch or a front tow bar on the front bumper. Bundu Gear rock sliders can also be installed. Optional Hankook Dynapro AT off-road tyres are on offer with the special edition Thar.
Powering this Thar is a 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine which delivers 107 PS and 247 Nm torque via a 5 speed manual gearbox. Power is delivered to all four wheels via Borg Warner 4×4 system with low range transfer case. 3 colour options are on offer – Rocky Beige, Rede Rage, DSAT Silver. Prices start from R293,999, which as per today’s currency conversion rates, is about Rs 14 lakhs. The car comes with a 2 yr / 50k kms warranty.
