Mahindra Thar Signature Edition commemorates the end of production of the first gen Mahindra Thar which has been sale since 2010. Mahindra Thar Signature Edition production will be limited to just 700 units. This limited production model will be offered in two color schemes of Napoli Black and Aquamarine.

The exteriors of Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will sport Signature logos on its front fenders, silver accents on front bumper and black decals on bonnet. It will sit on 15” multi spoke alloy wheels. These alloys are similar to the one’s which were also seen on the previous gen Mahindra Scorpio and Marskman.

To show off a sense of exclusivity, the Signature edition sports the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group on its fender. Interiors see new leather seating and front facing rear seats. The seats come with Thar embossed. Select dealers have started accepting bookings of this limited edition Thar, which will officially be the last of its kind.

The current generation Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.5 liter M2DICR diesel engine offering 63 bhp power and 195 Nm torque and a 2.5 liter CRDe engine offering 105 bhp power at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm torque at 1,800-2,000 rpm mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. It is this CRDe, 4 liter diesel engine which will be powering the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition. The Signature Edition is also expected to get a marginal price hike considering the added features that it will be receiving.

With Bharat NCAP coming into effect from 1st October 2019, Mahindra Thar will be discontinued as it does not meet the set safety norms. But fans need not disappoint, as Mahindra has started working on new generation Thar, which will launch by the end of this year, or early next year. 2020 Mahindra Thar has already spied on test, with soft top as well as hard top.

2020 Mahindra Thar sported new front and rear bumpers and new doors with handles positioned lower for better ergonomics. The black and beige colored interiors also get revamped with a new dashboard design, contoured front bucket seats and rear side facing seats, a large screen and multi function steering wheel. It also receives padded doors and power windows giving the interiors a more premium stance.

In compliance with new BS VI emission norms, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will get powered by all new 2.0 liter diesel engine which will also be making its way onto the next gen XUV500 and the Scorpio as well. It will be mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox as well as an automatic gearbox. The same engine will be offered in three states of tunes. The lowest one will be used to power the Thar, which will be about 120-140 hp. Scorpio will get about 160 hp tune of the same engine, while XUV500 will get the most powerful tune of 180 hp.
