The journey for the Mahindra Thar has been long and momentous. It started off its journey on June 3, 1949 when it was called the Mahindra CJ3A. Now on the completion of 70 years, the company is introducing a special edition called the Signature Edition.

This Signature Edition is being produced at the company plant in Nashik, Maharashtra. It is offered in an Aqua Marine blue colour scheme.

It sports a Napoli black front grille, 5 spoke alloy wheels, Kolon leatherite black front seats with Thar emblems and a D-Sat silver paint on its bumper. Special Signature Edition decals are seen across its body.

Official brochure of this new Mahindra Thar Signature Edition has now been leaked, thanks to folks at Auto Tech India. With launch scheduled to take place in coming days, brochure reveals all the necessary details and features, except for the price; which is expected to be in the range of Rs 10 lakhs.

Apart from this special Signature Edition of the Mahindra Thar, the company is also readying a new Mahindra Thar which will launch either later this year or after it goes on display at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Test mules have been spied testing around Coimbatore which shows off the Thar with increased dimensions. It sports a 7 slat grille, circular headlamps, massive fenders and flared wheel arches. Another model on test showed off the soft and hard top versions.

The hard top version also sports a spare wheel, full sized tailgate and larger windscreen at the rear along with interior features such as a new touchscreen infotainment system and a new dashboard design.

To comply with new emission norms, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will see engine updates. It will get an all new 2.0 liter diesel engine, that will offer about 140 PS power and 300 NM torque. It will continue in a four wheel drive layout and mated to a new 6 speed manual transmission.

Among its safety features will be dual airbags, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and ABS and EBD which will be offered as standard. These feature updates and new BS VI compliant engine on the 2020 Mahindra Thar will see an increase in prices as compared to the current model which is priced at Rs.9.49 lakhs.
