The Mahindra TUV300 AMT is witnessing higher than anticipated demand, indicating that the buyers in the segment are ready to embrace clutch-less driving. According to Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, around 50% of the bookings received so far are for the AMT variant.
Speaking of the bookings, the TUV300 has already garnered over 12,000 orders since its launch on September 10. The waiting period for the AMT variants is steadily increasing since the company has a limited production capacity for the mechanized transmission. Developed with inputs from Ricardo, the AMT is a 5-speed unit which has given the TUV300 a competitive edge in the mini SUV segment.
Dr. Goenka said that production rate of the TUV300 has reached 5,000 units a month. This rate would be maintained until exports commence (Mahindra is working on several export variants of the car including a 4×4 derivative).
The sub-4 metre ladder frame UV is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder mHawk80 twin-stage turbocharged diesel engine which generates 85 PS when mated to a manual transmission and 82 PS when mated to an AMT. The torque output stands at 230 Nm.
