Mahindra TUV300 and Maruti Vitara Brezza go offroad – One crosses with ease, one gets stuck; Here’s why

On a recent trip to the mountains, resident of Delhi and owner of a Mahindra TUV300, Vijender Bhargava has managed to capture an interesting test. The test shows, two of the capable compact SUVs in India, both made by Indian companies, trying to cross a water-filled stream on a rocky bed.

The first car to the task, Mahindra TUV300 manages to cross the stream with ease. The second car in this test, one of the best-selling car in the country – Maruti Vitara Brezza gets stuck immediately after entering the stream. Watch the video below.

There are many reason behind why the Vitara Brezza could not and the TUV300 could. The biggest reason of them all is the fact that the Mahindra, is a more capable off-roader of the two cars. Mahindra has designed and developed the TUV300 keeping such terrains in mind. On the other hand, the Vitara Brezza is more like a soft-roader, which is better suited for city use.

Also, the TUV300 is a rear wheel drive (RWD) vehicle where as the Vitara Brezza is a front wheel drive (FWD) vehicle. As you can see in the above video, it is the front wheel of the Vitara Brezza which gets stuck in the rocky bed and loses traction. Had it got a RWD like the TUV300, it would have managed to get out of the situation with similar ease.

Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV300 compete each other in the same segment. Both offered with only diesel engine option, price of TUV300 ranges from Rs 7.66 lakh to Rs 10.68 lakh for the AMT dual tone variant. On the other hand, Vitara Brezza price ranges from Rs 7.38 lakh to Rs 10.01 lakh. Only manual transmission option is on offer.

Mahindra TUV300 is powered by a 1.5 liter diesel engine that is rated at 100 hp and 240 Nm, delivering 18 kmpl. Maruti Vitara Brezza on the other hand, is powered by a smaller 1.3 liter diesel engine generating 90 hp and 200 Nm, delivering 25 kmpl.
