Will Mahindra Verito Vibe premium diesel hatchback emulate Honda Amaze sales order book

Based on M&M’s only sedan, Mahindra Verito Vibe is placed in a very competitive segment. Designed and developed by M&M, space and comfort will be optimum, and power comes from a 1.5 Litre dCi Diesel Engine known to peg max power at 64 Bhp and torque of 160 Nm.

Clearly targeting a younger audience, what remains to be seen is whether people feel the Mahindra Vibe. The Verito Vibe marks our entry in the high volume sub 4 metre segment. While developing this product we have paid particular attention to making this car look different and we are sure that it will appeal to customers with its young and sporty looks and that too without compromising the benefits which our existing Verito has to offer. “

A premium tag doesn’t guarantee overwhelming sales response rightaway, however, for M&M this is a necessity. Having dominated the SUV space for long, the company seems a bit stranded at present with taxes on SUV’s that are 4 metre in length and upward having increased at this fiscals Union Budget. Passenger vehicle sales didn’t tumble in May 2013 with 22,244 units of Scorpio, XUV 500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito sold. Overall company sales decline was recorded at 1.2%.

While buying sentiment is low, there’s certainly space for compact cars that are the flavour of the year thus far. Honda India certainly had a winning plan and has executed it to perfection. With demand for Honda Amaze far outstanding delivery, the company has brought some hope to our depressed auto industry. In fact, their first diesel car for India has made compact sedans a must have with almost 14,000 cars sold in less than 2 months of launch. Mahindra has had immense success with their recent launches, much in the same fashion. When XUV500 was introduced, it seemed the only SUV to buy. The Quanto didn’t quite emulate that level of success but by itself did vouch for a considerable sales volume in the compact SUV segment.
