Production model would share majority of its components with the XUV500.

The Mahindra XUV Aero crossover coupe concept which was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo has received positive response from the audience, thanks to its dynamic silhouette and premium appeal. The company is inclined to whip out a production version of the Aero to sit at the very top of its portfolio.

NDTV Auto reports that, according to Dr. Pawan Goenka, ED, Mahindra, the production model could be priced in the vicinity of around INR 20 lakhs. That’s a significant premium over the regular XUV500 it’s based on and we expect Mahindra to justify the price difference by adding a lot more goodies.

Penned by the automaker’s Mumbai-based design studio with inputs from Italy’s Pininfarina (now under Mahindra’s umbrella), the XUV Aero concept is a sportier interpretation of the popular XUV500. The front fascia has a strong resemblance to the 7-Seat SUV but receives new elements like LED headlamps, vertical LED daytime running lights and honeycomb meshed air dams.

The concept adopts suicide rear doors to do away with B-Pillar.

The striking is characterized by a swooping roofline and corresponding greenhouse. The concept’s suicide type rear doors do away with B-Pillar but we expect the production model to adopt a conventional arrangement.

It’s safe to assume that the Mahindra XUV Aero will derive its 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and 6-speed manual transmission from the XUV500 but will offer significantly more power (concept has 210 PS on . The objective of the model is to act as a brand shaper for Mahindra. Expect it to be ready sometime in 2017.
