The sub-4 metre crossover will debut new engines and will be positioned to fight it out with B-segment hatchbacks.

Inline with its fondness for alpha numeric nameplates, Mahindra appears to have christened its upcoming compact crossover as XUV100 (to be pronounced as one-double-O). The fact that Mahindra has registered ‘’ domain adds gravity to the belief that the mini SUV codenamed S101 will be complying with the automaker’s nomenclature.

As with the XUV500, the company’s first crossover, the XUV means Utility Vehicle for Generation X (gen next). The Mahindra XUV100 is the company’s second crossover and will feature a design which is inspired by its bigger and more premium sibling.

The Indian UV specialist is expected to launch the XUV100 once it gets the TUV300 up and running. The sub-4 metre crossover will be aiming to lure prospective B-segment hatchback customers with the promise of better space, road presence and high driving position.

Previous spyshots revealed that that the XUV100’s interior offers a centre console-mounted gear lever, front bench seat, and a new multifunction steering wheel. Top-end variants offer 2-DIN multimedia infotianment system.

The upcoming SUV will be introducing new petrol and diesel engines. The diesel motor will be a 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit and the petrol motor will also adopt the same configuration.

We expect the Mahindra XUV100 to significantly undercut the Ford EcoSport with an estimated price range of INR 5.5-8 lakhs (ex-showroom).
