Ahead of the commercial launch, it has recently conducted an internal launch of the compact SUV at its research facility in Chennai. Just a few days ago, it had started with display of the compact SUV in public spaces. All these pre-launch activities are inclined to generate more interest amongst the potential customers. Talking about the SUV, it is based upon the same platform as the Ssangyong Tivoli, which is a globally renowned product. The Tivoli happens to be longer in dimensions, but Mahindra had to Indianize it and managed to fit it just under the 4-metre mark, so that it could get the required tax benefits. Some of the first-in-class features which XUV 300 comes along with are: 7 airbags, heated ORVMs, front-parking sensors, sun-roof, dual-zone fully automatic air conditioning, four-disc brakes and the list goes on! There are two engine options which will be available from the launch. The diesel motor happens to be a retuned unit (1.5 litre 4-cyclinder) from the Marazzo which delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl. The petrol unit is a 1.2 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder motor which is tuned to return a fuel economy of 17 kmpl. Though maximum power figures aren’t known at the moment, the maximum torque figures stand at 300 Nm for the diesel unit and 200 Nm for the petrol unit. Transmission duties will be taken care off by a 6-speed manual gearbox which will deliver power to the front wheels. As per reports, Mahindra is working upon an AMT but it will be introduced only at a later date.
Mahindra XUV300 ground clearance is 180 mm while boot space is 265 liters. Mahindra has confirmed that the ex-showroom prices of the XUV 300 will be in the range of INR 8–12 lakhs. Primary competitors of the XUV300 will be the current segment leader Maruti Brezza and India’s safest car (as per GNCAP tests), the Tata Nexon.
