The new age XUV500 (XUV – Five Double O) SUV is finally here. What was for long discussed as the W201 or world SUV finally came to us with the spirit of the Asiatic Cheetah. While the vehicle looks biggish, it has clearly followed softer design lines ditching the usual Mahindra boxy appeal, and opting for attractive curves. The M&M XUV500 diesel was unveiled yesterday in Pune, and enters the Indian car market at a price of Rs. 10.8 lakhs. The car is launched in two variants – W6 & W8 @ Rs. 10.8 lakhs and Rs. 11.95 lakhs respectively.
Design and R&D for the XUV500 is an in-house affair. What we’re seeing is the first home developed monocoque SUV. The vehicle is fitted with the first transverse engine from M&M. The grille upfront is expansive to say the least. What’s interesting are the recessed fog lamps, which isn’t something you see often. The LED day-time running lights, and projector headlamps fit in well. The front bumper isn’t too imposing which adds to the XUV500 SUV frontal appeal.
The use of chrome hasn’t reached the point of bling in the XUV500 SUV. The wheel arches certainly look imposing as compared to the wheels that don’t could appear to look a bit small in comparison to the SUV. The XUV500 will be difficult to miss when it drives by. The vehicles underbelly too has been kept spic and span.
The XUV500 works in tandem with the Mahindra RISE philosophy. Based on the global platform, Mahindra spent 4 years in conceptualizing, and testing the idea that we today acknowledge as the XUV500 SUV. The vehicle is headed to South Africa too.
