Mahindra Zaheerabad plant begins P601 SCV production

Mahindra SCV P601 is scheduled to launch in H1 FY2015-16. Others who attended the automotive plant extended facility inauguration include T Harish Rao – Minister for Irrigation, Mining and Geology, Marketing and Legislative Affairs; Jupally Krishna Rao – Minister for Major Industries, Handloom and Sugar Departments; Padma Devender Reddy – Deputy Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly; Dr J Geeta Reddy, MLA, Zaheerabad Constituency; Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra and Mahindra and Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive, Automotive, Mahindra alongwith senior officials from the company.

Mahindra Zaheerabad automotive plant extended manufacturing facility entailed an investment of about Rs 250 crore. The facility now has installed capacity of 92,000 new vehicles per annum, and can be scaled up to meet additional demand. Zaheerabad plant already has a production capacity of 75,000 vehicles pa. Mahindra Zaheerabad plant overall production capacity now stands at 1,40,000 vehicles per annum. The eco-friendly plant uses twin principles of water harvesting and tree plantation and is a perfect Earth day offering this year.

Manufacturing activity here includes sub one tone commercial vehicles ( 4 wheel load and passenger vehicles), in addition to UVs, LCVs and 3 Wheelers being currently manufactured. Expansion takes the number of direct and indirect employees to 3,500 workers across Mahindra automotive and tractor plants in Telengana.

Dr. Pawan Goenka says the Zaheerabad plant incorporates a flexible and agile approach to manufacturing in order to respond quickly to evolving customer needs. Investment to date stands at over Rs. 1,100 crore. Mahindra is significantly invested in Telangana. He thanking the state government for their encouragement and support, and is keen to accelerate development and put Telangana high on the industrial map of India.

Pravin Shah took pride in the moment. Mahindra will work towards manufacturing some of the best commercial vehicles from Zaheerabad plant and generate employment in and around the plant through suppliers and other business partners. 6 of Mahindra suppliers are setting up plants in the nearby supplier park at an investment of over Rs. 100 crore. This will benefit industrial activity and operational effectiveness resulting in timely delivery to optimise cost.

Mahindra and Mahindra Zaheerabad plant is now water neutral.

Mahindra inaugurated its Zaheerabad tractor plant in 2013. At present, 3,500 tractors are produced each month. Mahindra has automotive manufacturing plants in Mumbai, Chakan, Nasik, Igatpuri and Haridwar.
