Mahindra’s rival to Tata Nexon, spied in production ready guise

All set for a launch ahead of Diwali 2018, the new compact sub 4 meter SUV from Mahindra, which is currently codenamed S201, has been spied once again. Based on the SsangYong Tivoli, the 5 seater compact SUV showcases its LED tail-lamp in production spec for the first time.

Mahindra S201 SUV will sport typical styling features that are distinctive to other SUVs from Mahindra. These include a toothy grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, horizontal tail lamps, LED fog lamps and double spoke alloy wheels. It will also get roof rails and roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp and license plate has been affixed to the tailgate rather than positioned on the bumper.

In terms of safety features, Mahindra S201 gets ABS and EBD as standard along with dual airbags. It is also expected to come in with automatic climate control, keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment system, windshield wipers, cruise control and a sun roof. It could also sport some outstanding features from the XUV500 such as bending lamps, tyre pressure monitoring system and voice guidance.

S201 will be launched in the sub-4 meter segment so as to take advantage of tax benefits. Engine options are not revealed, but it could get the same 1.5 liter engine which is seen on the TUV300. This engine is good to deliver 100 PS of power. Petrol and diesel engine option will be on offer along with manual and AMT options. More details will be revealed closer to launch.

New alloys.

Mahindra S201 SUV will be presented in two iterations, a 5 seater and 7 seater. The 7 seater variant will feature a longer wheelbase while the 5 seater variant will feature a shorter wheelbase. Both will be aggressively priced.

The 5 seater variant will rival the likes of Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport while the 7 seater variant could rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, in pricing. For the five seater variant, expect prices to range within the Rs 7-10 lakh price range.
