With temperatures soaring above 38 degrees in Madhya Pradesh, a Doctor has plastered cow dung (gobar) across exteriors of his Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

A Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, plastered with cow dung across its exteriors has drawn the attention of many passersby on the streets of Madhya Pradesh. As detailed in a video on Kanak News, and shared on their YouTube channel, Dr Sushil Sagar, a homeopathic doctor by profession, has found a novel way to keep the interiors of his car cool during the summer heat.

This is not the first time that such modes of insulation have been resorted to. In an earlier post we had detailed a Maruti Omni that received the cow dung treatment during the 2022 summer heat. In May 2019 there was a Toyota Corolla in Ahmedabad that also received the cow dung effect to combat surging heat.

The entire exteriors have been pasted with a gobar paste. It is spread over the front and sides and right across the rear, leaving nothing but the lights, windshield, bumper and number plates exposed. The doctor has claimed that he has seen an instant cooling effect.

However, this may not be entirely true. Cow dung when wet could make the car interiors cooler. The intense heat and scorching sun will soon dry the paste and then it will have an adverse effect which could in fact lead to overheating of the car engine. This solution could also damage the paint causing it to corrode.

The owner believes that gobar application on the exteriors provides thermal insulation, cools the interiors of the car. It also ensures that the AC unit performs more efficiently as compared to a metal exposed exterior. But there is no scientific proof to back this theory. In fact, this can be dangerous as it poses a safety risk.

The Alto 800 in question looks like a base variant from the video. The bumper of the hatchback is not body coloured. Maruti Alto 800 has long been a popular hatchback among buyers in India. It was introduced in 2000 and received regular updates.

Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 Discontinued

Following new BS6 Phase II emission standards coming into effect from 1st April 2022, the Maruti Alto 800 entry level hatchback has been discontinued. The Alto 800 drew power via a 796cc petrol engine that offered 48 hp power and 69 Nm torque. Updating its engine to meet these standards would not have been financially viable.

Following this decision, the Maruti Alto K10 will now serve as the company’s entry-level model. It is priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
