Alto 800 becomes second Maruti car to cross 25 lakh sales

Maruti Alto sales cross 2.5 million

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s largest automaker has announced that their entry level hatchback Alto has achieved yet another milestone. Maruti Alto has become the second model in the company’s lineup to achieve sales over 25 lakh units, a feat only accomplished by Maruti 800 to date.

Maruti Alto sales cross 2.5 millionLaunched in the year 2000, Maruti Alto has been in the forefront for past 14 years, going on to become the best selling car in India, and most successful car in company’s portfolio. Despite growing competition, in the form of Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano, Maruti Alto has firmly held its ground. Alto 800 is the most trusted product from Maruti Suzuki and instantly appeals to first time buyers due to its efficient internal space, resourceful engine and lower running costs.

Mr Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing) said, “Launched in 2000, the Alto has attained the 25 lakh milestone in less than 14 years, fastest by any brand; we are overwhelmed and humbled by its popularity. Alto continues to be India’s favourite car thanks to its value proposition and low cost of ownership. We thank our patrons for recognizing this and supporting Alto to make it a powerful brand in the automobile industry.”

Besides being a success in domestic markets, Maruti Suzuki Alto has seen exports to the tune of 2.85 lakh units over the past few years. To combat increased competition and to add freshness to the brand, the company is in the process of launching an Alto facelift by end of this year or early next year.

Priced from INR 2.80 lakhs, Maruti Suzuki Alto is offered in 8 variants and is powered by a 800 cc 3 cylinder engine offering 48 PS peak power and 69 Nm peak torque while being mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. See the image below, which shows the journey of Maruti Alto 800 since launch.
