Maruti Suzuki Alto, the nameplate which includes Alto, Alto 800 and Alto K10, has made its mark in India by being the bestselling car in the country for nine years. Maruti Alto has now received global acclaim and established itself as bestselling car globally despite seeing declining sales in India to the tune of 7.3%.
A total of 265,777 Alto’s were sold last year with Toyota Aqua coming in a close second with total sales of 262,367 units in 2013. VW Gol, which was the best seller in 2012 saw sales decline to the tune of 13% with 255,057 units sold in the past year. The last of top 4 sellers saw VW Golf come in with total sales of 244,249 units at 1.47% increase as compared to sales in the last year, reveals Hindustan Times.
Maruti Suzuki Alto owes its success to the fact that it is an ideal car for Indian road conditions. It has been found that Indian buyers show preference to smaller cars which offer better fuel economy but well suited as a family car. It is a perfect car for emerging economies and offers all the attributes desired by global buyers in a compact car in its class.
