India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki sales performance during the month of October 2015, is amongst their best ever October performance. Selling 134,209 cars (including exports), MSIL registered sales increase of 29.1% as compared to October 2014.
In the domestic market, Maruti Suzuki sold 121,063 units during October 2015, as compared to 97,069 cars sold in October 2014. This means they recorded an increase of 24.7% in the domestic market as compared to October 2014. Exports too increased by 90.4% from 6,904 units to 13,146 during October 2015.
For Maruti Suzuki, the boost in sales was due to the launch of new Baleno. Thanks to Baleno, Maruti Suzuki sales in the compact segment (Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire) grew by 37.7% from 37,083 in Oct 2014 to 51,048 in Oct 2015. In comparison, the mini car segment (Alto, WagonR) posted growth of 5.2%, mid-size sedan segment (SX4, Ciaz) sales declined by 7.2%, utility vehicles (Gypsy, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, S-Cross) sales increased by 56.5% and that of vans (Omni, Eeco) increased by 30.8%.
The company aims to continue growth with upcoming launches like the YBA compact SUV.

Speaking about Maruti’s biggest rival, and the second largest car manufacturer in India, Hyundai sales during the month of October 2015 grew by 10.3% (including exports). In the domestic market, Hyundai India registered sales of 47,015 units (their highest ever monthly sales in India), while exports stood at 14,777 units. Together, Hyundai sales stood at 61,972 units.
Comparing their October 2015 sales with October 2014, when Hyundai India registered 38,010 units, 18,009 units and 56,019 units respectively; they posted 23.7% increase in domestic sales, 17.9% decline in exports and 10.3% increase in overall sales.
Sales of Hyundai India are boosted due to the newly launched Creta SUV, and the already successful Elite i20. Together, they account for over 20,000 units in domestic sales. Upcoming launches from Hyundai India includes an MPV to rival the likes of Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio.
