Maruti Baleno 5 lakh owners in just 38 months – Sales beat rival Hyundai i20

Maruti Baleno has become the best selling car in the segment. And in doing so, has left rival Hyundai i20 behind. Maruti Baleno monthly sales average at about 18k units a month, while that of Hyundai i20 average at about 13k a month. Both Maruti and Hyundai have increased production of Baleno and i20 to meet growing demand.

More and more new car buyers are today preferring family hatchback, instead of small hatchback – which was the case few years ago. This has resulted in decline in the growth of small cars like Maruti Alto, WagonR; and resulted in the increase of sales of bigger hatchbacks like Swift, Grand i10, i20, Baleno, etc.

Mr. R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Baleno has become a resounding success in the highly competitive premium hatchback segment. It is a testimony of our best in class technology and customer experience. Our engineers have ensured that Baleno offers superior ride and handling, class leading performance and safety.

With a staggering 20.6 % growth in first half of 2018-19, Baleno has been among the top selling cars in India, since 2016. We are grateful for our customers’ constant support that has made Baleno India’s most preferred premium hatchback.”

Family welcomes new Baleno home.

First launched in October 2015, Maruti Baleno is yet to receive a facelift. At that time, price of Maruti Baleno petrol ranged from Rs 4.99 lakhs to Rs 7 lakhs while that of Baleno diesel ranged from Rs 6.16 lakhs to Rs 8.11 lakhs. Today, about 3 years later, prices of Baleno petrol ranges from Rs 5.38 lahs to Rs 7.38 lakhs, while that of diesel Baleno ranges from Rs 6.5 lakhs to Rs 8.5 lakhs.

Powering the petrol Baleno is a 1.2 liter engine which delivers 83 hp and 115 Nm while Baleno diesel is powered by a 1.3 liter engine which delivers 74 hp and 190 Nm. Mileage claimed is best in its class.
