First spied on test last year, the premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki will be officially revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which begins on 15th September.
Internally codenamed YRA, Maruti Suzuki will be manufacturing the new Baleno at their plant in India. This will not only fulfil domestic demand, but also that of countries abroad. Yes, Maruti Baleno will be exclusively manufactured in India, for now. Export markets include many European countries as well as the home market of Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, Japan. Maruti aims to produce 80,000 units in first year, of which 32,000 are allocated for sale in India.
To be offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, new Maruti Baleno will take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto in the Indian auto industry. Engine options on offer with the Indian variant are expected to be same as seen on Swift, 1.2L petrol generating 85 PS and 1.3L diesel generating 90 PS.
On the other hand, Suzuki has confirmed that in Europe the new Baleno will be sold with a 1.0l Boosterjet turbocharged engine. Considering that the car is going to be manufactured in India, we do expect that this engine option to also be on offer here.
To be loaded with features, Maruti Baleno is will be seen with all-black interiors, touchscreen for navigation, multimedia and park assist, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents, steering mounted controls, cruise control, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, Airbags, ABS, and much more.
Here in India, Maruti Baleno will become the second car which the company will sell through their new-age premium outlets called Nexa. Compared to the regular Maruti dealer, Nexa will offer a premium experience, which Maruti claims is above the ordinary. The company aims to open at least 100 Nexa outlets across India by March 2016.
