According to the data from Querimetrix, a Kotak Institutional Equities’ analytic tool, the Maruti Baleno emerged as the most searched car on Google in 2015 as far as India is concerned. The tool monitors Google Trends and measures digital enquiries of popular products.
The data shows that Baleno outran its peers by a clear margin when it comes to digital enquiries. The hatchback’s search share has reached a pitch which was previously seen in 2013 in the case of the Ford EcoSport. The Renault Kwid too managed to evoke the interest of several internet users with its bold SUV-ish looks and mouth watering price tag.
The sales performance of these two hatchbacks is consistent with the digital trend. The Baleno which was launched in October 2015 is presently sitting on over 70,000 bookings with a waiting period of over six months in certain regions. The Kwid which went on sale is last week of September 2015 has clocked over 85,000 bookings and the waiting period goes up to 10 months depending on the location.
Both models have India as their primary target market and are destined for several export markets. In fact, the Maruti Baleno will be made exclusively in India and exported to over 100 international markets.
Maruti Baleno and Renault Kwid will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2016 in spruced up avatars to keep the interest alive.
