The Maruti Baleno premium hatchback was launched on October 26 and the company wrapped up the month with a highly impressive dispatch of 4,229 units. November will be the first full month of sales and the new car looks poised to take the fight straight towards the Hyundai Elite i20 which clocked 11,019 units in October.
The Baleno entered the scene when Maruti Suzuki is witnessing a sharp increase in revenue from the super compact and mid-size segments. The car which is being retailed exclusively through the company’s new Nexa premium outlets is based on Suzuki’s new lightweight global compact car platform which has India as its sole production base.
The hatchback is powered by familiar 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS (Fiat MultiJet) diesel engine. The former puts out 84.2 PS and 115 Nm of torque while the latter generates 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque. The petrol motor can be had either with a 5-speed MT or a CVT whereas the oil burner is available only with a 5-speed MT.
The Maruti Baleno’s sales in November would be aided by the festive season. Expect the final tally to exceed 10,000 units.
