Even as the Maruti Suzuki’s budget car segment faces pressure from competition, it’s foray into newer segments like premium hatchback and sub-4m crossover has proven to be fruitful. The Maruti Baleno and Vitara Brezza outsold the Hyundai Elite i20 and Ford EcoSport respectively to claim the segment leadership.

Though the S-Cross couldn’t quite match the Hyundai Creta in terms of sales, the massive price reduction revived sales. The recent successes come as a huge confidence booster for the company which has been associated with its econoboxes rather than premium offerings.

Maruti Vitara Brezza Review

The Brezza current has unserved bookings of around 50,000 units.

The Vitara Brezza managed to register impressive monthly sales of 7,832 units in April as against the EcoSport’s sales figure of 3,779 units. The margin of leadership in the premium hatchback segment is not this big. The Baleno clocked 9,562 units as against the Elite i20’s 9,400 units.

However, it’s to be noted that the Baleno is sitting on over 55,000 bookings and the sales is limited only by the company’s production constraints. The Brezza too has unserved bookings of around 50,000 units, leading to a waiting period of 6 months. Maruti is currently working on de-bottlenecking the production lines at its Manesar and Gurgaon plants to increase the output of the Baleno and Brezza.
