Maruti Alto, Swift, Dzire, Baleno sales down 45% – WagonR No 1 in July 2019

Maruti Suzuki car sales are on a decline. Month after month, the car maker has registered decline in sales. Largely, the decline is due to the overall industry decline being registered by the entire auto industry in India. But the volume of sales decline registered by Maruti, is the highest.

So much so that, this decline has resulted in the car maker’s market share declining to 48.16% in July 2019. Market share lost by Maruti, is gained by Hyundai. In July 2019, Maruti lost 4.73% market share whereas Hyundai gained market share by over 4.39%.

Speaking about Maruti’s best selling cars for the month of July 2019, they too have registered heavy decline, except for a few. On the top of the table for best selling 10 cars of July 2019 is Maruti WagonR with 15,062 units sold. This is a MoM and YoY increase in sales.

On the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th spot are Dzire, Swift, Alto and Baleno. These 4 cars have registered massive decline in sales for the month, and are largely responsible for the dismal sales performance of the company in July 2019.

Maruti Dzire sales stood at 12,923 units, declining 49.61%. Maruti Swift sales were at 12,677 units, declining over 36%. Alto sales stood at 12,677 units, declining by 36%. Baleno sales stood at 10,482 units, declining 41%. Overall, these 4 cars registered sales of 47,659 units in July 2019, as against 86,971 in July 2018. Sales declined registered is 45.2%.

Other Maruti cars in the list of top 10 selling cars for July 2019 were Eeco at no 6 and Ertiga at no 8. Both these cars have registered increase in sales. Eeco sales increased by 29% to 9,814 units while Ertiga sales increased from 4,764 units last year to 9,814 units in July 2019 – growing 93.58%.

Of the top 10 cars sold in July 2019, Maruti had 7, the other 3 belonged to Hyundai. Best selling car for Hyundai last month was their newly launched Venue small SUV. It registered sales of 9,585 units and took the 7th spot on the list. On the 9th spot is Hyundai i20 with sales of 9,012 units in July 2019 – declining 16.73%.

On the 10th spot is Hyundai Creta, registering its lowest monthly sales in over 2 years. Last month Creta sales stood at 6,585 units – declining 36.82%. Total sales registered by the top 10 cars were 1,06,939 last month.
