Maruti Brezza AMT vs Tata Nexon AMT

Maruti Suzuki India Limited launched the new Vitara Brezza AMT version just days after Tata brought in the Nexon AMT. Both these compete against each other in the compact SUV segment in India. We draw attention to these AMT SUVs in terms of price, features, engine and performance.

Price – Maruti Suzuki Vitata Brezza is presented in three variants VDi AMT, ZDi AMT and ZDI+ AMT each of which are priced at INR 8.54 lakhs, INR 9.31 lakhs and INR 10.49 lakhs respectively. At these prices, the Brezza has a clear advantage over the Tata Nexon AMT, offered only on the top spec XZA+ trim is priced at INR 9.41 lakhs for the petrol variant and at INR 10.30 lakhs for the diesel version. To make the Nexon AMT more affordable, the company is also planning the Nexon AMT on lower variants as well.

Features – Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AMT gets same level of equipment and features as seen on its manual counterpart. These include automatic climate control, a SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rain-sensing wipers, alloy wheels, electric ORVMs and reverse camera. ABS, EBD, 2 airbags and keyless entry are among its safety features.

Features on board the new Tata Nexon AMT are limited as compared to that seen on the Vitara Brezza and include projector headlamps, LED DRLs, fog lamps and 16” alloy wheels. Seating is in 60:40 split allowing for better boot space and infotainment is via a Harman sourced 6.5” touchscreen with Android Auto.

Engine – The Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT gets only a diesel engine while the Nexon AMT receives both petrol and diesel engine options. The Brezza AMT is powered by a 1.3 liter, 4 cylinder, DDiS 200 engine offering 90 hp power and 200 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic manual transmission.

There is a more powerful engine seen powering the Tata Nexon AMT which includes a 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine offering 110 hp power and 260 Nm torque and a 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol capable of 110 hp power and 170 Nm torque. This engine is mated to a 6 speed AMT. Apart from having a more powerful engine as compared to the Brezza AMT, the Tata Nexon AMT also gets 3 driving modes of Eco, City and Sport due to which it also scores above the Brezza

Mileage – Taking only the diesel engines into account, ARAI certifications put Maruti Brezza AMT mileage figures at 24.29 kmpl as against Tata Nexon AMT diesel engine which offers mileage at 23.97 kmpl.

As the two compact SUVs continue to compete with each other it is found that the Nexon AMT is notable better than other AMT SUVs in India. The fight will continue and only time will tell which of the two compact SUVs will score over the other in terms of sales.
