As the Indian automobile sector continued with its negative trajectory for the 9th month in a row, the country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a 32.7 percent decline in sales in the past month.
Sales in August 2019 stood at 1,06,413 units as against 1,58,189 units sold in August 2018. Domestic sales declined 34.3 percent to 97,061 units in August 2019 as against 1,47,700 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
These lower than expected sales have caused the company to extend its discount schemes which were prevalent in the month of August through to September 2019 as well. Compared to Aug, discounts in Sep has increased. These discounts on Arena models extend to Maruti Alto, K10, Celerio, Eeco, Wagon R, Swift and DZire.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, K10 petrol and the Celerio petrol variants are on discount through September 2019. The cash discount is at Rs.40,000 while there is also an exchange bonus of Rs.20,000 offered on each of these models. Alto sales have gone down by a huge margin. For the month of Aug 2019, Alto sales are about 10k units. There was a time when Alto sales were at about 30k units a month.
Maruti Eeco petrol discounts include a Rs.15,000 cash discount on the 5 seater variant going up to Rs.25,000 on the 7 seater. There is also an additional discount of Rs.20,000 under the exchange scheme.
The BS VI compliant Maruti Suzuki WagonR can be had through the month of September 2019 at a an exchange bonus of Rs.15,000 while the Swift and DZire petrol variants each come in with cash discounts of Rs.25,000 and Rs.30,000 respectively along with Rs.20,000 exchange bonus. The Swift and DZire diesel variants get Rs.20,000 cash discount in addition to a 5 year warranty and Rs.25,000 exchange bonus.
The highest discount is on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza with a Rs.50,000 cash discount, 5 year warranty and Rs.20,000 exchange bonus. Total benefits on offer with the Brezza is Rs 1 lakh – highest ever benefits seen on the Brezza. This is due to heavy decline in sales post the launch of Hyundai Venue. There is no discount offered on the Maurti Suzuki Ertiga BS VI petrol variant.
Arena showrooms are also offering a corporate discount of Rs.5000 on the Alto, WagonR, Celerio, Swift petrol and DZire petrol and Rs. 10,000 corporate discount on the Swift diesel, DZire diesel and Brezza. With these discounts and benefits, Maruti hopes to increase sales this month.
