Maruti Car Sales July 2020 Registers Growth – Thanks to Alto, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Dzire

With lockdown coming to an end in many parts of the country, Maruti Suzuki has registered an increase in car sales for July 2020

Maruti Suzuki India has registered car sales of 97,768 units in July 2020 for the domestic market. This when compared to sales registered in July 2019 of 96,478 units, is an increase of 1.3%. Helping Maruti register this increase in sales are their cars from the Mini and Compact segment. Together, cars from these two segments managed to register sales of 68,787 units in July 2020.

Total Domestic Sales (PV+LCV) for July 2020 stood at 100,000 units as against 98,210 from July 2019. This is an increase of 1.8%. Maruti’s Sales to other OEM (Glanza to Toyota) stood at 1,307 units, as against 1,796 units in the same month last year.

Total Domestic Sales (Domestic + OEM) thus stood at 101,307 units in July 2020 as against 100,006 units in July 2019. This is a growth of 1.3%. Exports in the month of July 2020 stood at 6,757 units as against 9,258 in July 2019. This is a decline of 27%. Maruti’s Total Sales (Total Domestic + Export) for July 2020 stood at 108,064 units against 109,264 units in July 2019. This is a decline of 1.1%.

As can be seen from the sales table, it was the Mini and Compact segment which helped Maruti register an increase in sales during such times, when the world is battling corona virus pandemic. A few months ago, Maruti Chairman had predicted small cars will lead sales for the company in the era of social distancing, and that is what is seen in the sales table.

Segment-wise Sales

In the MINI segment, Maruti sells Alto and S-Presso. This segment has registered sales of 17,258 units in July 2020, as against 11,577 units in July 2019. This is an increase of 49%. It is to be noted here that in July 2019, S-Press was not on sale, as the car was not launched yet.

Compact segment, which offers WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire, Tour S – saw sales of 51,529 units in July 2020. This when compared with July 2019 sales of 57,512 units, is a decline of 10%. Maruti Ciaz sales in the mid-size sedan segment declined to 1,303 units in July 2020 as against 2,397 units in the same month last year.

Utility Vehicles is another segment which helped Maruti Suzuki India register increase in sales. This segment offers – Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, XL6. Of these, it is the Ertiga and Brezza which lead in sales. Together, UV segment saw registering sales of 19,177 units as against 15,178 units – growing by 26.3% YoY.

In the Vans segment, which currently only offers the EECO – Maruti registered sales of 8,501 units in July 2020. This when compared to July 2019, when both Omni and EECO were on offer, sales were at 9,814 units. In the LCV segment, which offers Supper Carry, Maruti registered sales of 2,232 units for July 2020.
