Maruti Celerio diesel and ZXi AMT top-end variant enter production, launch next month
Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT has performed above expectations. Launched at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, Maruti Celerio AMT variant is offered only with base and mid variant. This was done to keep the price range competitive. But with more and more customers demanding ZXi variant with AMT, Maruti Suzuki is close on the heels of launching this new variant.
Called Auto Gear Shift, AMT on the top of the line variant of Maruti Suzuki Celerio Zxi AMT will certainly be a major attraction while it has not yet been confirmed whether this model will be the Zxi tron or Zxi(O) with AGS. Pricing will stand at INR 5 lakhs for Maruti Suzuki Celerio Zxi AGS while Celerio Zxi (O) AGS will have a price tag of INR 5.5 lakhs.
Despite a higher price, this feature on the top level trim will be welcomed and attract a wider audience due to its convenience. Features such as front fog lamps, alloy wheels and coloured body handles besides driver seat adjustment, electric adjustment for ORVMs and safety features such as ABS and dual air bags are also eagerly anticipated by prospective buyers of Celerio AMT.
Maruti expects that in the years ahead, 30-40% of small car sales to come from Automatic Gear Shift versions and hence the company is in the process of offering newer variants of AMT in the future. These includes their best selling cars – WagonR, Swift and DZire. In order to keep price competitive, they have entered into a JV with AMT kit manufacturer – Magnetti Marelli, who are in the process of setting up their plant inside Maruti’s Mansesar plant.
Apart from Celerio ZXi AMT variant, another car is expected to be launched next month. This will be Celerio Diesel. This will be an all-new diesel engine, built completely in-house by Maruti Suzuki India. This three cylinder 793 cc mill is expected to deliver 30.1 kmpl mileage, making it the most fuel efficient car in the country. Price of Celerio Deisel is expected to be in the range of Rs 5 lakhs, for the base LDi variant.
