Maruti Celerio AMT spied, gets ZXi status and driver side Airbag
Maruti Celerio AMT buyers have been forced to compromise on safety, as the AMT kit (which is largely the deciding factor for zeroing in on Celerio in the first place) is offered only in LXi and VXi variant levels.
The stockyard of Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant has been found to have a good number of freshly baked Celerio units, which have ZXi badging. This means, Maruti Celerio AMT will soon be available with at least driver side Airbag, amongst other features to cherish in a top end variant.
For Maruti Celerio manual, additional ZXi Opt variant is available, which adds one more Airbag (for front passenger) and equally important ABS (Antilock Braking System). Though units of Maruti Celerio ZXi Opt with AMT have been spotted among the herd, it is believed that they are meant only for exports and only plain ZXi trims will be launched in India.
It is unclear why Maruti Suzuki chose to keep Auto Gear Shift variants from equipping Airbag and ABS in the first place, especially since AMT models are typically preferred by people who may be new to driving.
