When Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel engine variant is launched on June 3, 2015, it will set many new benchmarks in the auto industry. All the features of Maruti’s made-in-India 800 cc diesel engine are now revealed in leaked brochure scans, which was being displayed to dealers before launch at a private meeting.
To date, Maruti Suzuki depends on Fiat for diesel engine. This is the first engine which Maruti Suzuki has made. This engine produces 47 bhp peak power at 3,500 rpm and 125 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm. This is impressive considering that it has a cubic capacity of just 793 cc.
Another interesting fact of this engine is that when we compare the torque output per cc, this tiny engine delivers more torque as compared to what the diesel heart of Swift delivers. To put some numbers in perspective, new Maruti diesel 800 cc engine delivers 0.16 Nm per cc, while the 1.25 litre diesel engine of Swift delivers 0.15 Nm per cc. This could also imply that the Celerio diesel will be fun to drive, and have a better pickup as compared to Swift diesel. All this, while delivering a record mileage of 27.62 kmpl (ARAI certified)
The new engine is also the lightest in its class, weighing a total of just 89 kgs, thanks to the all aluminium engine block. Other features on board include hydraulic clutch, new gen 5 speed manual transmission, optimized gear ratio, effortless gear shift, optimized engine load on clutch pedal and clutch release system.
When the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel variant launches on 3rd June 2015, it will be seen in four variants that include LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O) as is seen on its petrol engined counterpart.
Features on board the entry level LDi variant includes beige/black interiors, digital clock, distance to empty, mileage indicator, AC with heater, body coloured bumpers, accessory socket, key reminder, door ajar warning, and power steering.
In addition to the above, LDi+ gets front and rear power window, 5 door central locking, two action door unlock, 60:40 split seat, day-night IRVM, rear parcel shelf, co-driver vanity mirror, full wheel cover.
In addition to the above, aboard the VDi+ you get driver airbag, audio with bluetooth, auto unlock on crash, steering mounted audio controls, electric adjust for ORVMs, turn indicator on ORVM, tachometer, keyless entry, rear wiper and defogger, tilt steering, body coloured door handle and ORVM.
Top of the line ZDi+ gets everything above, and – co-driver airbag, ABS with EBD, alloys wheels, security system, front fog lamps, and height adjustable driver seat.
Considering the price of Celerio LXi petrol starts from Rs 3.90 lakhs (ex-Delhi), price of LDi could be about Rs 60k – 70k more. We expect the Celerio diesel to be priced in the range of Rs 4.6 – 5.7 lakhs.
