In just sixteen months of launch the Maruti Suzuki Celerio compact car has seen total sales of 1 lakh units in domestic market.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), leading automakers in India are celebrating 1 lakh domestic sales of the Celerio compact car. Achieving this in less than 16 months of launch, makes the Celerio yet another successful product from Maruti.

Maruti Celerio sales commenced in February 2014. It is also exported from India.

Launched in February 2014 at Delhi Auto Expo, Maruti Celerio is among the top 10 selling cars in the country today. First car to be offered with Auto Gear Shift technology (AMT gearbox), Celerio launch increased Maruti Suzuki’s share in the small car industry from 61% to 71% in India.

Launched only in petrol variant last year, today Maruti Celerio is available with petrol, diesel and CNG fuel options; and in two transmission options of manual and auto gear shift (only petrol). Priced in the range of INR 3.9 lakhs to 5.71 lakhs, the surprising part is the fact that over one third of sales comes from the AMT variant.

With 1 lakh sales already achieved, the company is now aiming to achieve 2 lakh sales in an even shorter period. This will be very much possible thanks to the newly launched Celerio diesel variant.

New Maruti Celerio Diesel engine delivers more torque per cc as compared to Swift diesel.

Maruti Celerio diesel has appealed to buyers as it is not only the most affordable diesel car in India but is also the most fuel efficient car. It delivers 27.62 kmpl as per ARAI. The diesel engine powering the Celerio is a two cylinder 800 cc aluminium engine, it is Maruti Suzuki’s first in-house developed engine. Based on this, Maruti Suzuki has plans to launch larger diesel engines, which will help them steer away from using Fiat’s 1.3L and 1.6L multijet diesel engines on thier cars.
