Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, launched in India in October. It is priced from INR 6.99 lakhs onwards. Not upgraded since launch, the Ciaz was recently spotted with some minor updates that include bumper mounted LED Daytime Running Lamps and racing stripes.
Though both these updates look like aftermarket fitments, as they were spotted inside the company’s plant; it is very likely they will be launched in India as a special edition model. Maybe a 1st anniversary special edition. Maruti is known for launching special edition variants every now and then, for eg, Swift Music Edition.
Despite updates, the Maruti Ciaz LED variant will continue with same engine specifications as seen on the regular Ciaz variant. This will be in the form of a 1.4 liter K Series petrol engine and 1.3 liter DDiS diesel engine. The petrol engine is mated to a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic gearbox while the diesel engine is only offered with a 5 speed manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki sees monthly average sales of around 5,000 units where the new Ciaz is concerned. However, sales are nowhere close to that of its rival Honda City of which 8,000 units are sold each month. The other reason for adding LED DRLs and racing stripes, could be to boost sales.
