Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce an all new technology, a first time for their cars, in the form of SHVS. This will be first launched with Ciaz, on 1st September. Before the car is launched, its brochure is now leaked online, revealing complete details of the car, except the price tag.
Offered only with the diesel engine, SHVS in Maruti Ciaz SHVS stands for Smart Hybrid Vehicle System. It will feature a larger capacity battery, an integrated starter generator and start/stop technology; all of which will combine to offer better mileage. Maruti Ciaz SHVS Hybrid brochure confirms that the mileage is at 28.09 kmpl, making it the most fuel efficient car in India.
Maruti Ciaz SHVS Hybrid will replace the existing Ciaz diesel from the market. Measuring the same as the current Ciaz diesel at 4,490mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,485mm in height, the five seater sedan will sit on a wheelbase of 2,650mm and have ground clearance of 170mm. There are no new cosmetic changes to be seen on the model’s exterior which will receive distinctive SHVS badging at the rear to set it apart.
The hybrid system on board Ciaz is being imported into the country as CBU. This will result in pricing to be higher than the existing Ciaz diesel by approximately Rs 35-40,000.
Speaking about the petrol variant, it continues to offer same mileage at 20.73 kmpl with MT and 19.12 kmpl with AT. Apart from introducing this new tech, Maruti will also make dual airbags as standard across all variants of Ciaz, except for the base, which only gets single driver airbag.
With bookings already open, deliveries are set to Ciaz SHVS marks the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s progress towards offering fuel efficient cars. The same SHVS tech will also be seen on Ertiga facelift, which is due for launch in October 2015. It will also be seen on many more cars from Maruti in the future.
