Still a very new car, Maruti Ciaz is all set to receive a major upgrade. This will be in the form of Maruti Ciaz SHVS. What is SHVS? A technology from Suzuki (stands for Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki – in Ciaz’s case Maruti Suzuki), SHVS will not only improve vehicle fuel efficiency but will also result in better acceleration.
One of the functions of SHVS, is basically the same tech which we already know of – regenerative brake system. Instead of standard sized battery, the Ciaz SHVS will have a larger battery. This along with Integrated Starter Generator will help the engine to draw power from the battery during acceleration, and store energy into the battery while braking.
Apart from this, Ciaz SHVS will also consist of auto start-stop system. This system will turn the engine off when you stop the car, for eg at a traffic signal. The minute you push clutch or accelerator, engine comes back to life, thanks to the Integrated Starter Generator. This system will help Ciaz SHVS return a better fuel efficiency.
The third feature of the SHVS is Blue technology. Maruti claims that this is the first time a mass car manufacturer will bring this technology to use. The Blue technology will reduce the harmful emissions from engine, thus harming the environment a bit less.
To be launched later this month, Maruti Ciaz SHVS has already started arriving at dealerships. Though official bookings are yet to open, few dealers have already started accepting orders. The Ciaz SHVS variant will only be offered with diesel engine. Expect its price to be about Rs 35-40,000 more than its corresponding variant.
