Maruti Ciaz to get more powerful 1.5L petrol engine to rival City, Verna, Vento, Rapid

Launched in 2014, the Maruti Ciaz is due for a mid-life refresh. The facelifted Honda City rival is expected to be ready sometime in June-July this year. Ahead of that, some interesting update regarding the car’s engine has been leaked.

As per recent reports, the most significant change would come in the form of a new 1.5-litre K15B petrol motor which will replace the current 1.4-litre unit. The new motor puts out 12 hp more power (at 104 hp) and 8.2 Nm more torque (138.4 Nm) compared to the outgoing unit.

The familiar 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine would continue without much changes. A 5-speed manual gearbox would continue to be a standard fitment while the petrol motor is expected to retain the optional 4-speed AT.

As far as aesthetics go, we expect the mid-size sedan to sport a refreshed front fascia with revised grille, bumper and reprofiled headlamps. The profile would remain more or less untouched, save for a possibly new alloy wheel pattern. It’s reasonable to expect new rear bumper and slightly redesigned taillight cluster.

Considering that Ciaz already features a contemporary interior, we don’t expect much changes on this front but one could expect slight tweaks to the color theme. Maruti may add a few more goodies to the already good equipment list to further enhance the sedan’s appeal, now that it has one more rival in the form of Toyota Yaris.

Maruti Ciaz facelift is expected to be priced marginally higher than the existing car which currently retails between INR 7.83 lakhs to INR 11.51 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
